“Cliff Swallows are highly social, colony nesters. In times of food scarcity, when an individual bird discovers a rich new food source, a “squeak” call alerts the group to rush to the location. The birds, originally a western species, built their gourd-shaped mud nests on the ledges of cliffs. As the continent was settled, they expanded their range eastward, adapting their architecture to bridges and overpasses.” J.T
