"North By Northwest"
"North By Northwest"
“North By Northwest” was created as the cover art for the July-August 2025 issue of Bird Watcher’s Digest. The original watercolor painting has been reproduced as a print on 100% cotton rag fine art paper, using lightfast pigmented inks, and has been signed by the artist.
“It’s hard to find a bird more charming than the Violet-Green Swallow, and you couldn’t find a more delightful place to see them in action than Telegraph Cove on the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Walking along the boardwalk loop that looks back at the cove, I watched gleefully as these elfin masters of the air, bedecked in feather patterns more fitting to the sub-tropics than to the Pacific Northwest, snatched insect prey out of the sky. Previously I had only encountered them in Southern California along a reclaimed stretch of the Los Angeles River adjacent to the Sepulveda Nature Preserve. It’s a small oasis of nature amidst a massive sprawl of urban development. Here was the opposite scenario. A small outpost of humanity amidst the massive sprawl of nature. The seed for a painting had been planted.” J.T.
